The best horse riding experience in New Zealand (and I’ve done quite a few in different locations over the South Island).

A few things that makes Orepuki Horse treks an absolutely AMAZING experience:

1) Kindness and friendliness of the owner towards customers and what was super important for me - to the horses as well. It is absolutely obvious that the horses are LOVED like children and really taken care of. Horses are super kind and positive, well behaved and responsive.

2) Safety during the trek and all the time. Elfi (the owner) made me feel absolutely at ease and confident that I can just walk or trot (what I’m very familiar with) but also capable to cantor (gallop) if I decide to. She rode alongside of me and was spot on all the time. She believed and encouraged me and at the same time didn’t push my limits. The beach cantor was the HIGHLIGHT of my visit.

3) Cleanliness and professionalism during the prep for the trek. I got not only helmet (as in ALL the places for horse riding that I’ve been to), but also pants, socks, and boots (brand new and super comfy and professional). They have ALL the things you need to ride and more.

4) Little add ons as photos, videos (taken during cantor and trot), snacks and most importantly AMAZING people.

Going on a multiple-day ride with these lovely Arabian horses was one of the best adventures I've had in New Zealand so far. Before the actual trip started, Elfi had planned out a personalised route and exciting destinations for my 4 days riding, which were extremely diversified (from Fiordland to bush, farm & beach rides). Upon arrival, I started with two shorter rides to trial which of the lovely horses would be the best fit for me for the next days. Elfi did a wonderful job in organising all the logistics during this trip and we accomplished to almost ride 80km in those 4 days (Needless to say I loved every second of it!!) I had a wonderful, magical time & can only recommend it to anyone, who wants to experience the versatile beauty of Southland in an exclusive and adventurous way. Patricia, Germany

Absolutely recommended! Unique experiences & the all-round carefree package. Elfi & her super trained and great horses are the best. The ride was incredibly beautiful and fantastic, we have never had such a great experience. Elfi is an incredibly warm and wonderful person and you can see that in her horses. Breathtaking! All around it was the best ride of my life (and I've been riding for 20 years). The ride to and on the beach is simply fantastic. In addition, Elfi is a very warm, loving and careful instructor. Here you have the feeling that you somehow belong and are not just anyone. The horses are absolutely lovely and very fit in all gaits. I was able to enjoy a wonderful ride with Elfie over the farm and on the beach with a long canter (4 hours). The horses are very well trained and safe in the terrain. The material, saddles and bridles, as well as the helmet and boots that I received were in the best condition. Since it was still raining, I even got rain pants and a warm shower at the end of the ride. This is not a given. Elfie is an experienced rider and great conversationalist. My trekking experience with Elfi was fabulous - and so unique! Firstly, every one of Elfi's beautiful Arab horses is so well-cared for, healthy and well schooled, making riding a joy. For any experienced rider (even if rusty, as I was) you have the joy of a forward-moving, responsive horse who is enjoying the ride as much as you are. Our beach ride was spectacular, and the horses are confident in the surf, and comfortable at every pace from trot to in-hand canter. The gear is top class and I was so grateful Elfi could offer a range of boots, chaps and helmet as I didn't have everything travelling with me. And Elfi herself is a delight, taking so much pleasure in sharing her love of Arab horses and her home. I will definitely return and highly recommend this to any rider looking for a different trekking experience. - Rosalie

 

We had simply the best 2 days riding with Elfi! She tailored the whole experience to us and she, along with her family, could not have been more hospitable. We had an amazing time galloping along the beach (we even saw a dolphin!), trekking up the hills and through the bush and experienced the very best of the south coast of New Zealand. Her ponies could not have been better behaved - responsive, polite and so cute. Would highly recommend to any rider who wants to experience New Zealand on horseback. Thanks so much Elfi! - Olivia

 

A huge thanks to Elfi, her horses and friends! My daughter and I booked a 2 day ride; one a bush ride behind her farm and the other a beach ride. Both were incredible experiences. Elfi has a great team of horses and worked to match rider to animal. She also was happy to accomidate special ride requests and flexible to work around the weather. The bush ride had incredible views of the landscape that made for a very scenic ride. If ready/experienced, there were several spots to canter the horses. The beach ride was just as fantastic. The horses weren't shy about going into the swells at all; although, be sure to keep an eye out for seals! Beyond just the sights to see, Elfi and her friends will make your trip with their conversations and stories. Everyone was very friendly, engaged, and wanting to share the experience. All in all, couldn't give a better recommendation for a scenic ride in New Zealand than with Elfi and her lovely horses. - Shari

 

One of the best days riding I've ever had! I cannot recommend riding with Elfi and her wonderful horses highly enough. Trekking through beautiful farmland and finishing with a canter down the beach was a real highlight. Elfi is friendly, welcoming and professional and her horses are a dream to ride, responsive and well trained but ready to really go for a good trot and canter.
